2014 is coming to an end, and VAP has just wrapped up two of its most fun events! On Friday, December 19th, Value Added Packaging rented out the private room at the Poelking Marion Lanes bowling alley for its team and their significant others. It boasts eight bowling lanes completely separated from the rest of the facility, with its own bar and food area. There are plenty of sofas and space for mingling and engaging one another. The VAP Team looks forward to this outing all year, and this year’s event did not disappoint!
Another fun, end of the year event we do is the OpEx games. After our Team Member Christmas Luncheon, we shut down production and randomly pair up individuals to compete in one of three area competitions: Assembly, Forklift, or Operations. Once the teams are established, each pair competes in one of the three categories forcash 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.
Forklift operators are the exception: they compete individually. Each forklift operator must go through an obstacle course that includes picking up a quarter from the floor with the forks and turning a barrel upright and carrying it steadily. This is all timed, with 10 second penalties for safety and quality. The forklift operator with the best time wins!
For Assembly and Operations, the idea is the same: they are timed and receive 10 second penalties for quality issues. The teams compete to make the best product in the best time. It’s a fun afternoon for competitors and spectators alike, and while teams are competing, team members get plenty of time to talk with one another on the floor in an informal, low key environment.
Both of these events are a lot of fun for everyone involved, and it’s a great way to recharge for the New Year!
